A marathon speech that did not change anything

While political pundits, Democratic Party professionals, lawyers, consultants, and lawyers are still gushing after Senator Corey Booker’s marathon 25-hour Senate speech, what did it really accomplish?

The speech itself was a litany of Trump’s mistakes, which are already well-known to all who voted against him. It also highlighted the fact that the Democrats have nothing else to combat the Republicans. The Dems are powerless, thanks to the ineptitude of the DNC, Democratic Party leadership and the louse leadership that can be traced to Barack Obama and Joe Biden, the two formal leaders of the party during their respective tenures.

Weak leaders who ignored the DNC

Biden deserves most of the blame since his arrogance and cover-up of his mental lapses prevented him from calling for an open nominating convention within a month of being inaugurated. He was also enabled by people close to him and his immediate family who failed to convince him that it was time to retire. However, even until the end, Biden could not accept his limitations and insisted that he was the only one who could defeat Trump, even after his pathetic debate performance.

But this is all old news.

Booker’s Speech Doesn’t Change Trump’s Sadistic Policies

While the Democrats must have been thinking this accomplished something, the MAGA Republicans must have been laughing in their beds as Booker spoke to an empty chamber about things they all knew to be true but are too spineless to combat.

As this article in The Hill, points out, “By tomorrow, voters won’t be discussing Booker’s record-setting performance — they’ll be responding to whatever new headline has captured the news cycle. Meanwhile, Democratic leadership continues to mistake endurance for effectiveness, length for impact.”

Now, the Dems have nothing to offer except to say that it is time to keep organizing, resisting, and preparing for the mid-term elections.  But Trump and the brains behind him know this same calendar.  By the time the election happens and the Republicans lose control of the House, the MAGA agenda will essentially be in place.

The damage to Americans under the MAGA steamroller will take a generation (40 years) to undo.  By then, many Americans will see their net worth decline, benefits cut, discontinued, or delayed.  Many people will die, but the Republicans will not accept any responsibility, just as they failed to act when Trump’s anti-COVID vaccine propaganda killed an estimated 100,00 Americans during the COVID pandemic.

Look at this excerpt from Scientific American (March 5, 2021). Not the word “Scientific” in its title:

“In the final year of Donald Trump’s presidency, more than 450,000 Americans died from COVID-19, and life expectancy fell by 1.13 years, the biggest decrease since World War II. Many of the deaths were avoidable; COVID-19 mortality in the U.S. was 40 percent higher than the average of the other wealthy nations in the Group of Seven (G7).

The anti-vaxxers who killed people

“In a Lancet report by the Commission on Public Policy and Health in the Trump Era, released on February 20, we chronicled Trump’s effects on population health. His incompetent and malevolent response to the COVID-19 pandemic capped a presidency suffused with health-harming policies and actions.

“However, we also found that Americans’ health began lagging before Trump took office. In 1980, U.S. life expectancy was similar to that of other G7 nations; by 2018, it was 3.4 years shorter. 461,000 deaths would have been averted in 2018 if U.S. life expectancy had kept pace with the rest of the G7. That’s equivalent to the number of Americans who died from COVID-19 last year.”

The Republicans under Trump are the Death Party. If people die or suffer, it’s part of Trump’s mental illness.  Numerous psychiatrists have found Trump to be a malignant narcissist, and one Yale psychiatrist diagnosed him as a sadist.

With Trump and Musk’s mental illnesses now in full view, the media and political establishment should acknowledge that Trump and his MAGA Cabinet and closest advisors are no different from the sociopathic dictators, such as Adolf Hitler, Joseph Stalin, Mao Zedong, Saddam Hussein, Benito Mussolini, Idi Amin, Pol Pot, Muammar Gaddafi, Francisco Franco, Kim Il-sung, Kim Jong-il, Robert Mugabe, Augusto Pinochet, Ferdinand Marcos, and Nicolae Ceaușescu.

Politicians do things differently here, but Trump’s forced deportation, using plainclothesmen to pick people from the streets, denying benefits to the sick, stopping food supplies to starving nations, and wholesale firings without cause are more sanitized versions of prison camps and death squads. But Trump’s sadistic policies will have the same results: rising misery, fear, and uncertainty.

Corey Booker’s marathon speech does nothing to change this reality.
