The Grim Societal Meaning of the Epstein Files: Where Were the Parents?

It’s clear the US is in decline.

Politicians and the media won’t say it since they are part of the problem. But what we are watching is the dismantling of US democracy, and we seem powerless to stop it. It’s clear this descent is accelerating daily.

That’s the backdrop and the real meaning of the Epstein files.  This scandal is much more than a saga about sex with young women, some as young as 14.  If it were sex with older women, would that be more acceptable and less of a front-page story?

Sex scandals in the US involving government officials and corporate leaders are not new.  The earliest sex scandals involving politicians go back to 1850.  Sex scandals involving corporate leaders also happen and can often mean immediate resignations, reputation damage, and legal liability.

But those stories would not have the staying power of the abuse of young girls.

Sex and Power: A Powerful Combination

The power of the Epstein tapes and documents is about much more than sex.  Sex always sells because it captures the public’s voyeuristic imagination.

But this historic event exposes an unrepentant elite class of past and current presidents, corporate heads, dealmakers, inside traders, and others seeking an informational edge. Their real game was to outsmart each other.

Since public documents and materials about the Epstein case are accessible to everyone, the main issue now is societal decline.  This concerns the decadent lifestyle of a corrupt Manhattan and international society.  This corruption brought global businessmen, politicians, and shady deal-making into the open.

Most of the documents are not about sex.  Based on reports from organizations with the resources to review over three million pages, there are no salacious descriptions of orgies or specific sex acts.

The fact that sex is not the main topic of this otherwise boring trove of emails is seldom discussed.  These men were too smart to put incriminating referrals about sex on paper.  The bulk of the documents and emails concern business deals, meetings, bank transfers, hotel reservations, gossip, and meal reservations at expensive restaurants.  The communications sketch out business-relationship structures that drive this nefarious network.

We will never know what these men discussed in their meetings, but the flurry of emails suggests that the lubrication for these meetings is the exchange of gossip or snippets of news that could give an edge in a deal or lead to a new contract.

Sex Was An Added Bonus

At most corporations with large entertainment expense accounts, routine corporate entertainment consisted of attending sports events. In the 1970s, the corporate entertainment focus shifted to strip clubs and lap dancing, yet even this was not sufficient. It was too plebeian; think of the Sopranos’ “Badda Bing” Club.  What these high rollers needed was a private club.  That’s where the Epstein mansion, and island access via a private jet, became the Shangri-La for this clique.

At this club, business executives could mingle with movie stars, intellectuals, entertainers, directors, Eurotrash, and underage girls, so they could gain bragging rights, hear the latest rumors, or push their senses.

The decadence, secrecy, hidden bank accounts, and money laundering added to the exclusivity.

The real purpose was about big-time deal-making, trading insider information, and getting high-level, expensive professionals (lawyers, tax experts, money launderers, fixers) into the schemes.  It’s unclear who paid for all this talent, but since there was such a large slush fund in these deals (after all, it’s all about financial engineering, creating money from nothing), there was enough for everyone.

Where Were the Parents of the Abused Children?

But what about the underage victims?  What did they get out of the arrangements?

Where were the parents of the abused girls?

Apparently nothing.   As of now, the victims were collateral damage to this entire scandal.

Worse, the victims will never get justice.  Trump‘s personal lawyer said on Jan. 30, 2026, there is “no smoking gun” of names of men who abused the women.  Is there a list?  We may never know.

The most unasked question in this whole matter is:  Where were the parents of these underage kids?

Were they participants?  Were they paid?  Did they know what their kids were doing?  Should the parents get prosecuted, as well?  Amazingly, no one has asked these questions.
